New York University has organized a program in which ADHD children can enjoy summer with others just like them.
The NYU Summer Program for Kids with ADHD is the first summer program in the New York area catered to the needs of children with ADHD. For young people, social isolation tends to be one of the most common side effects of ADHD. This program is designed to make summer a fun, productive, successful experience for kids to become focused and meet others.
The program goals are to: • Advance the knowledge and understanding regarding the nature of ADHD. • Provide care to those with ADHD. • Train psychologists, psychiatrists and other professionals who care for ADHD patients.
All counselors are senior-level undergraduate students, graduate students and specially-trained classroom managers.
However, what really makes the program different than other programs is that the parents can be involved as well. Parents are taught skills to enhance and improve the connection between child and parent. All the NYU Summer Program staff requires is cooperation.
