I am trying to upload a picture for my avatar. I tried linking a URL to my Facebook account but that didn't work. Any help would be appreciated.

Steve, this board, unlike some, doesn't allow you to just directly download a photo. You have to first save it on one of the free image hosting sites such as Photobucket. You can then add it to a post using the insert image button at the top of the regular, not quick, reply box.
To use it as an avatar, go to your profile, go to modify profile and scroll down to Avatar URL and copy the URL for your image in the box there. Then click modify profile at the bottom left of that page. I don't guarantee it will work. Be sure the image isn't too big or it won't work at all.
