Joel Nigg, a Michigan State University associate professor of psychology and a leading expert on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, will speak this Saturday as part of the MSU Saturday Seminar Series.
Nigg will speak at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, in the Kellogg Center Auditorium. His topic will be “Adult Attention Deficit Disorder: Rumor or Epidemic?”
The Spartan Saturday Seminar Series is faculty talks on contemporary issues that are held at MSU before every home football game. The talks are free and open to the public and begin three hours before each game.
An MSU faculty member since 1997, Nigg directs the Adolescent and Adult Attention Study, a National Institutes of Health-funded project examining ADHD in teens and adults.
He is also leading a study to determine if environmental contaminants, as well as hormonal influences, play a role in ADHD.
Recipient of MSU’s 2004 Teacher-Scholar Award, Nigg earned a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley.
This is the final Saturday Seminar for 2005. Other topics this year included health and fitness, identity theft, advances in medical imaging and the job market.
